The old Woman who lived in a shoe

I read "The old Woman who lived in a Soe", usborne first reading book, level two book.

It's no fun to living in a shoe when you have as many children as this old woman.
She needs to find a bigger home - and fast.

I think that it was a good stories and mysterious for me.
It was good to receive new shoes from a giant.
And it was like a dwarfs story.
But I really concerned that which is regular size, a old woman or giant.
And also I concerned that are there any relationship between children and a old woman?
Any way it was good to live comfortably for her!
